How to Draw a Castle

Drawing of a Castle

Sometimes, after you've read a book on ancient legends or fairytales about knights and princesses, you find yourself wanting to draw a real Castle, complete with stone towers standing proudly displaying their ornate peaks and spires with flags floating in the wind. Here's a good lesson in drawing a Castle using #2 pencil, step by step. You will learn how to draw the proportions of buildings, how to draw a House, create a perspective for surrounding Castle scenery, learn how to use drop shadows and lines attached to the volume of the walls and towers of a Castle.

Step 1

Drawing of a castle, step 1

Draw four main towers of the Castle. Before you draw a castle, divide your sheet of paper into four parts. This will be the benchmark for future four towers. Next draw the towers as you imagine them and make sure they're proportionate to each other, id est. almost identical in height and width. Add triangular roofs for now. At the base of the towers draw a horizontal line above the ground.

Step 2

Draw the top part of the Castle. While drawing the upper castle towers, feel free to use a ruler if you find it difficult to estimate their proportions. Take time to draw step by step, considering the proportions of the building.

Step 3

Spiky towers of the Castle. Next draw the roof towers and add square openings. Concentrate drawing towards the main entrance to the Castle in the center of the wall of one of the towers. The bridge leading to the main entrance to the castle is made of a heavy metal grate.

Step 4

Bridge to the Castle. Draw a pathway connected to a wooden bridge. The bridge should be solid and well visible in the picture. Next go back to the roofs of the towers and add windows on the walls of windows for loopholes. One of them is used to attack enemies by throwing spears and arrows at them. In the background at the entrance to the Castle finish drawing a powerful wooden bridge, which should be positioned close to the grid lock on chains for now.

Step 5

Tiles and wall of the Castle. All castles have tiled roof and stonewalls. You might want to spend time working out the fine contours of the tiles and bricks for this drawing. Using your fingertips, rub the tint from the #2 pencil to color in the walls. Give windows a darker shade. Draw all the flags floating in one direction - to the right or to the left - with two sharp ends. Add more shadows to the grid, filling in in with black squares.
You can now work on the landscape around the Castle: mountains, river, Trees, Flowers, roads and clouds. You can use colored pencils or watercolor after implementing these simple techniques in drawing a Castle.
